Position: First Year Representative
Hey everyone! I’m Aanchal Bhagwat, an Architectural Engineering student and the First Year Representative of the Women in Engineering Society. With a 25.7% increase in women in engineering occupations since 2016, I believe that by nurturing young girls’ interest in engineering through workshops, encouraging them to pursue their STEM career dreams and highlighting issues due to the under-representation of women in this field, we together can continue to raise this percentage.
As the First Year Representative, I am responsible for bringing up any related matters or campaigns that are in the interests of the first year student community. My role gives me an insight into how the WIE society is run and allows me to share my own ideas with the team.
The idea of integrating the precision of engineering principles and functionality of design in the study of architectural engineering is what drew me to a career in this field. Engineering involves the manifestation of one’s creative vision into structures that improve people’s lives, which I find incredibly fulfilling.
Why Women in Engineering:
I joined the WIE society to be a part of a supportive group of women studying engineering, where we uplift each other and encourage other young girls to pursue their STEM career dreams. I’m looking forward to meeting and working alongside students who are just as passionate about WIE and learning so much more from all of you!
